Hartley Hire and Keswick Plant Hire have both come out with new brands to promote their waste recycling and aggregate crushing operations. This article explores how these new brands have evolved, and how Keswick Plant Hire has successfully become a market leader. Stephen Clark, owner of Keswick Plant Hire, has seen his plant hire business go from strength to strength in a short space of time. In this article, he will explain how Hartley Hire has successfully transformed from a family run business to a national brand.

Stephen Clark’s plant hire venture has grown from strength to strength
When Stephen Clark started his plant hire venture in 2003, he invested in two Yanmar excavators from a Cumbrian dealer. These excavators have since become a staple of his equipment fleet. The company’s success has led Stephen Clark to invest in another excavator, a 5.5-tonne unit, from a second dealer. Today, the business is flourishing and has grown from strength to strength, with many happy clients.

Keswick Plant Hire has an aggregate crushing and waste recycling operation
The company has an aggregate crushing and waste recycling operation. This business allows its customers to recycle waste materials and turn them into usable products. The company’s recycling services allow it to turn waste materials such as asphalt and concrete into valuable virgin aggregates. These recycled materials are often approved by the State Transportation Department. They can also be used as block fill, landscaping materials, and retaining walls. These are just some of the advantages of Keswick Plant Hire’s waste management services.

The company operates two facilities. The primary source of material for its Dix Pit plant is in Oxfordshire, while the secondary source comes from Buckinghamshire. Material is transported to the site by external hauliers from the fringes of Greater London. The company is integrating recycled products into its business by manufacturing concrete blocks and ready-mixed concrete with 100% recycled material. In addition to recycling C&D waste, the company also uses its filter cake to engineer landfill cells and cap landfill sites.

Hartley Hire has a new brand proposition
SHC, which owns a range of plant and tool hire businesses, has acquired Plant and Tool Hiring Keswick from Hartley. The acquisition of this small Cumbrian company is expected to complement SHC’s existing plant and tool hire offering and help the group to expand its footprint in the area. SHC managing director Neil Bravery will roll out a new brand proposition in the coming months. Plant Hire Keswick  has taken advice from Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors Richard Smedley and Walker Foster Solicitors, while Franklin Grange provided transactional support services.

SHC has acquired the tools and plant hire company, which is based in South Lake District. Hartley Hire was established in 1984 as a trading name of A&W Tool Hire Ltd and now has branches in Kendal, Windermere and Carnforth. The company specialises in small plant equipment and tools for trade. Its Keswick branch, the Hartley Hire Keswick branch, will remain separate from SHC’s other branches in Skipton, Ilkley and Northallerton.
